Unwired Voting at Journeys’ Battle of the Bands
Boston, MA – May 11, 2007 – Journeys Backyard Barbeque fans are now able to vote for their favorite
bands from their cell phones during the Battle of the Bands sponsored by Converse. Unwired Appeal provided
similar text-message (SMS) voting services to the event’s marketing firm, Sandbox Marketing, during the 2006
Journeys Backyard Barbeque Tour.
Unwired Appeal’s text-message voting services will be available at the Salt Lake City stop (May 19, 2007)
and Nashville stop (June 16, 2007). Three bands at each stop will be competing in the battle.
“We really enjoy deploying in-venue text voting services, especially at music festivals and concerts”,
commented Keary Griffin, Unwired’s director of technology. “Not only is it fun for the audience to
interact with the event, but it also clearly demonstrates that text-messaging is the optimal audience
communication channel in this environment.”
Unwired Appeal’s text-message voting platform also delivers real-time voting results to in-venue displays
that can be viewed by the audience. “It is particularly engaging when participants can see their votes come
in live”, continued Griffin. “People who wouldn’t normally vote change their minds when they see the immediate
effect on the outcome.”
The text voting service (aptly named “Unwired Voting”) includes optional features such as limited voting to one
vote per cell phone and Text2Win tie-ins. The base service supports up to five voting selections, but Griffin
noted that Unwired Appeal can easily program custom voting services to fit customer specifications. Unwired
Appeal also offers Interactive Voice Response (IVR) voting services that can help to extend the reach of
voting to people unfamiliar with text-messaging.
